Cadetting

Cadetting was introduced to S. Thomas Preparatory School on the 5th of April in 2001 with Lt. N.M.U.D.B. Nawarathne as the 1st Platoon Officer and Sergeant D.N. Fernando as the 1st Cadet Sergeant. Since its inception, the Cadets of S. Thomas Preparatory School have participated in the Annual Training and Assessment Camps held at the N.C.C. Training Center in Rantambe. The experiences gained at these camps have been and still prove to be extremely valuable to our Cadets’ personal growth as well as the growth of the platoon as a whole.

The Cadets perform various activities and play a significant role in many of our school’s events. The first and noteworthy activity conducted by our Cadet Platoon at a school function was the P.T. Display at the Inter-House Athletic Championship in 2002.  Thereafter, the Cadets of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School have performed Street Line Parades at the Inter-House Athletic Championship as well as other important school functions. The first Street Line Parade performed by our Cadet Platoon was at the Inter-House Athletic Championship in 2003. Furthermore, the Cadet Platoon also bares the responsibility of training and leading the March Past which was introduced as a Championship Event at the Inter-House Athletic Championship in 2012.

In the year 2017, Junior Cadetting was introduced across the country and was no sooner commenced at S. Thomas Preparatory School as well. The 1st Junior Cadet Sergeant in Prep school was H.R Ravichandran. The Junior Cadets also participate in various camps held at the N.C.C. Training Center in Rantambe.
